“All religions are but different paths up the same mountain.” Stephanie Tiv’ona Reith has spent much of her 54 years studying many of these paths, whether attending Hopi rain dances as a child growing up in Arizona, studying Buddhism and Taoism as a graduate student at Indiana University, or taking solitude retreats at a Catholic hermitage in western Illinois. In 1979, she had an opportunity to meet the Dalai Lama at IU during his first visit to the United States. Stephanie spent nearly 20 years in Buddhist practice, before her conversion to Judaism in 2003 after several years of study.

Stephanie served as a hospice volunteer in the Chicago area, and has led meditation and drumming circles. As a member of Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Congregation in Chicago, Stephanie coordinated the Bikkur Cholim (visiting the sick) program; sang with the Shir Hadash adult choir; composed and arranged music; co-led healing services and Rosh Chodesh gatherings; and taught adult religious education classes. She also served on the founding steering committee of Harmoniyah, the religious music network for the national Jewish Reconstructionist Federation. She continues long-distance memberships with Shir Hadash in Chicago and Beth Hatfiloh in Olympia, Washington, and is a member of the Bet Shira havurah in Jefferson County, Washington. She has begun a two-year training program to become an ordained Jewish chaplain..
