JERUSALEM: 3 peoples, 1 City longing for Peace

Miriam lives in Jerusalem where she is active in the spiritual, peace, and ecological movements in Israel. She comes from a Hasidic family, and her songs reflect her deep connection to Jewish sources, along with the openness of a world traveler and a woman of vision.

Miriam is part of the All Nations Café, participating in the Peace Caravan to Jordan in 2004 and the Caravan to Europe in 2005. She also initiated Bustanya (“Orchard”), a project where friends and neighbors are transforming a neglected valley in Jerusalem into a nature preserve with a permaculture organic garden.

Her latest recording, “Ways of Peace,” is a collection of songs written by her and by others who are working for peace in Israel, striving for a new and sane Middle East through good will, love, enthusiasm, and faith. Her first recording, “The Beloved - Devotional Songs to God” is based on the Psalms. The melodies are middle eastern, klezmer, and even Dixieland. Miriam was selected from over 300 applicants to perform 2 of her psalm arrangements at the Shalshelet Intenational Festival of New Jewish Liturgical Music in Maryland this June.

Miriam will share her songs, stories, and information on her work in Israel. Miriam’s CDs will be available for purchase, and donations for the artist will be accepted. Come to sing, dance, and just enjoy a participatory evening of music.
